Caring for Your Jewellery

Caring for your jewellery is very important to ensure it will be treasured for generations to come.
Please follow these easy steps:

Remove your jewellery before doing any physical activities such as exercising, gardening or dishwashing. You want to avoid the metal and gemstones from coming into contact with any objects or hard surfaces.

Keeping your stones sparkling

Soaps, oils and moisturisers can build up on your jewellery over time and can affect the sparkle of the stones. If this happens you can use a soft microfibre cloth or gently clean your piece with warm water, a gentle dishwashing detergent (nothing containing lemon) and a soft toothbrush.

Opals
that we use are all solid natural Australian Opals. While they're ok to get wet, Opals need extra care, so you do need to be mindful while wearing them. Please avoid letting your Opals come into contact with hard surfaces to prevent damage.

Emeralds
that we work with are natural with no treatment, allowing them to showcase their incredible colour and inclusions. It is recommended that you shield your emeralds from abrupt blows or physical impacts and extreme changes in temperature.

Claw settings like the ones used in our Splice range need to be checked by a jeweller once a year to make sure the tension hasn't changed.

Gold and platinum can be cleaned with the soft polishing cloth provided, or clean in warm soapy water with a soft brush and dry with a soft cloth.

Sterling silver can oxidise over time, ensure you are removing your silver pieces when coming into contact with water. A silver polishing cloth will bring your piece back to its bright shine.

Matte and polished finishes will change overtime. The natural oils on our skin will change the matte finish to a more satin finish and a polished finish will scratch over time. You are always welcome to drop your Sarah Gardner Jewellery in store to be re-matted or re-polished. Noting that matte finishes take off a small layer of metal each time, it is not recommended to do regularly.

Chains and Necklaces

To keep your chains in their best condition and stop them from becoming tangled or snapping it’s best to take them off before sleeping and swimming. If you get a knot in your chain gently untangle this, if you’re unable to do this please contact us and we can do it for you.

You’re always welcome to drop off or send in your Sarah Gardner jewellery to our store for a complimentary clean and check up.
